Ivy and other climbing plants often have detrimental effects on trees and in many cases should be pruned back and maintained or even removed completely.
Whilst it is often preferable to an ugly wall, ivy is an invasive colonist that can spread quickly. It also has the potential to damage masonry, window frames and roof tiles.
Trees / buildings and ivy can coexist and it also provides habitat and food for a large number of birds, animals and insects. However, it should be managed periodically.
All works are carried out in accordance with the guidelines set out in BS3998 (2010)
